India has made its position clear after recent remarks from the United States suggesting it does not want to repeat with India the “mistakes” it made with China. Responding to the comment, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasised that India’s rise will be determined by its own capabilities and ambitions.
Jaishankar said that the country’s growth and global role will be shaped primarily by its internal strengths rather than by geopolitical comparisons with other nations. “The rise of India will be shaped by India itself, not by the mistakes of others,” he stated.
The remarks underline India’s strategic approach to international relations, where the country seeks to build partnerships while maintaining an independent foreign policy outlook. India has increasingly positioned itself as a major global player through economic growth, diplomatic engagement and technological development. The statement also reflects the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under whose leadership India has focused on expanding its global influence while strengthening domestic capabilities.
Diplomatic observers see Jaishankar’s comments as a message that India’s trajectory will be defined by its own strengths, ambitions and policy choices, rather than by comparisons with other global powers such as China.
